Police have been ordered to return the items that had been seized during a Hindu religious activity at a site at Vedukkunari Hill in Vavuniya on Mahasivaratri Day.

On an order by the Vavuniya district court, a tractor with a trailer, water bowzer and aluminium cooking pans were given back to the owners.

However, it is alleged that 50 kg of rice, 10 kg of undu and other offerings worth around Rs. 300,000 were yet to be returned.

Six Hindus were taken into custody along with the material on 08 March with a charge of violating a previous court order at the site also claimed by Buddhists.

Later, they were released and the case against them dismissed for a lack of evidence against them.
