The sudden transfer of 31 CID officers investigating the Easter Sunday attacks and a foreign travel ban on 700 others on the orders of ex-president Gotabaya Rajapaksa are highly suspicious, said opposition leader Sajith Premadasa.

Speaking in parliament today (22) during the adjournment debate on the attacks, he asked the government to conduct an immediate investigation into both.

He stressed that since the local mechanism of inquiry being corrupt, an international investigation was needed into the 2019 bombings.

Premadasa also questioned the prohibition by higher authorities on questioning an intelligence officer citing national security, who was a frequent acquaintance of the attack mastermind Zahran Hashim, and said that too, should be investigated.

Also needing to be inquired into are Abu Hind, a superior to Zahran, Sara Jasmine and Sonic among others, he added.
