A court injunction has been lifted even after it had paved the way for the arrest of four Tamils for distributing porridge in Mutur.

A team of Muslim lawyers made the case on behalf of the three women and one man, who had been kept detained since their arrest on 12 May.

Lawyer Kanagaratnam Sugash told the media that this achievement could lead to a strengthening of ties between the two communities.

He said submissions were made to Mutur court that if the south can celebrate by distributing milk-rice, the north and the east can do likewise by distributing porridge.

Witnesses videoed how the four accused had been violently dragged away by policemen to be arrested.

Police had cited risks to life and health in order to obtain the court order against the porridge distribution that was to be effective for a 14 day period.
