A protest has taken place in Colombo against the arrest of four persons for having distributed porridge in Sampur, Ampara.

Protestors said the police had also told the people not to go to Mullivaikkal to remember their war dead today (18).

Head of the collective of families of missing persons, Britto Fernando, accused the government of denying Tamils the right to remember their dead.

However, it always preaches reconciliation, he said.

Fr. Sathivel, who took a basket of porridge as protestors handed a petition, questioned as to how the distributions could impact racial harmony.

The four arrestees have since been released on sureties, represented by a team of Tamil and Muslim lawyers.
