A proposal that Hambantota District Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa should be appointed as the

presidential candidate of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna was passed unanimously on 25 February at the meeting of the party’s Matale district representatives.

However, it is special that Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna’s Matale district leader Janaka Bandara Tennakoon and his son, Minister of State for Defense Pramita Bandara Tennakoon, were not invited to this meeting.

The party’s general secretary Sagara Kariyawasam, Namal Rajapaksa, Nalaka Bandara Kottegoda, Indika Anuruddha, Janaka Tissa Kuttiarachchi, Rohana Dissanayake and members of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna from Matale district were also present.

It is also learned that local government representatives have unanimously approved the proposal that Namal Rajapaksa should be appointed as the presidential candidate.

Most of the people gathered believed that by using the image of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, significant gains can be made in the upcoming elections.
