The leader of the National Freedom Front (NFF) MP Wimal Weerawansa today (20) demanded to know if minister Harin Fernando’s remark that Sri Lanka is part of India is his personal opinion only, or if it is the official stand of the government.
Speaking in parliament, Weerawansa questioned Fernando’s right to have a personal opinion about the country he represents.
Chief government whip Prasanna Ranatunga and Minister Manusha Nanayakkara responded to the allegation.
According to them, Fernando’s statement is clearly a reference to historic ties between Sri Lanka and India.
They alleged a distorted version of his statement was making rounds in social media.
