Mr. G.L. Peiris said that the presidential election must be held between September 17 and October 17 and the new president should be sworn in before November 17.

Speaking at a press conference held today (19) in Colombo, Professor Peiris also said:

He stated that the presidential election must be held within the scheduled dates of this year, and he believed that it would not be possible to get 2/3 of the parliament to abolish the presidency, and he directly asked the public the question of whether to abolish the presidency and continue this government for another year.

Mr. Peiris said that the people are waiting for the first mandate to oust this destructive government and said that the Election Commission and not the Presidential Secretariat has the legal authority to announce the holding of the presidential election.

He pointed out that the Election Commission is bound to announce the presidential election at the end of July or the beginning of August this year, and if the presidential election is not held on time this year, the government after November 18 will not comply with the law and it will be an illegal government.

Mr. Peiris also mentioned that he will support Mr. Sajith Premadasa in the upcoming presidential election.
