Resolving the economic crisis is basically a political issue, said senior vice president of the United Republic Front Shiral Lakthilaka.
He says the country has such a system of governance in which the ruler creates undue advantages and his cronies make use of such opportunities.
This has invaded governance, law and attitudes – resulting in economic bankruptcy, says Lakthilake.
The solution lies in the need to eliminate the prevailing system, for which his URF has presented a practical programme, said Lakthilaka.
He stressed the need for democratizing the economy for which a level playing field should be created for all the people to enjoy equal economic dividends.
Also, laws and regulations should be in place to punish fraud, corruption, wastage and irregularities, he adds.
