President Ranil Wickremesinghe informed the cabinet at its meeting this afternoon (18) that he will contest the upcoming presidential polls.
He also told the ministers that campaigning for the election would begin next month and said he expected their support in that regard.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has refuted reports that it has named leading businessman as the party’s presidential candidate.
The party has taken no such decision, said a leading member of the SLPP.
Taking a decision is up to the politburo, which has not met since last Saturday, he added.
