The Army has been urged to release the LTTE cemeteries in the north and the east it presently occupies.

A person in charge of one such cemetery at Theravil made the call as people gathered on 05 November to clear the place for Maaveerar Naal celebrations in 22 days’ time.

Shanmugarasa Jeevarasa said the Army was using those places to play cricket and football.

While preaching reconciliation, the government prevents Tamils from remembering their heroes, he said.

An estimated 7,000 LTTE members are buried at the Theravil cemetery, of which the Army is reportedly occupying a 75 per cent area.
