A survey has found that Sri Lanka incurs an annual loss of between Rs. 17 billion and Rs. 20 billion from crop damage caused by wild animals.
It was conducted by Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute, said minister Mahinda Amaraweera.
He said that more than 31,000 metric tons of vegetables and fruits are lost each year to wild animals.
All methods implemented so far to prevent it have failed, he said, adding that monkeys alone destroyed 200 million coconuts during 2022.
