Police have seized a Pajero jeep that had reportedly been imported illegally by a powerful politician in the central province around 15 years ago.
Worth more than Rs. 11.2 million, the vehicle was found by the Walana anti-vice squad at the parking lot of a luxury apartment complex in Narahenpita yesterday (01).
The place is owned by a leading vehicle importer and dealer, who is now in police custody.
The jeep had been imported in parts by furnishing false information and assembled locally.
It had been registered to the politician’s name from 2008 to 2022 and transferred to the name of another thereafter, police said.
