Police suspect underworld rivalry is behind the killing of the father-in-law of state minister D.V. Chanaka.
Lalith Wasantha Mendis, a 61-year-old businessman, was shot dead inside his car in Galle.
According to police, he had had connections with underworld leader ‘Rathgama Vidura’, who is in hiding in Italy.
He has a sworn enemy in ‘Kosgoda Suji’, now exiled in Dubai.
Mendis had previously given a statement to the CID over a drug-related charge.
CCTV footage shows two gunmen in a motorcycle firing at him at Dickson Road, with police saying the murder was committed with a T-56 rifle.
