The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) is now having a latest crisis within between its hierarchy and MP Nimal Lanza, who has become a close ally of president Ranil Wickremesinghe.

At the heart of the dispute is Lanza’s plan to form a new political alliance, comprising SLPP dissidents as well as certain others who are still with the party.

A worried SLPP national organizer Basil Rajapaksa met president Wickremesinghe last week and spoke against Lanza, said political sources.

The MP is bringing Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, W.D.J. Seneviratne, Priyankara Jayaratne, Susil Premajayantha and the SLFP MPs presently with the government to form the new alliance.

He is even preparing to lure more MPs from the SLPP.

Lanza, who is in charge of special projects affairs of the president, has been given an office and staff at the Presidential Secretariat.
