A presidential recommendation for a second service extension for C.D. Wickramaratne as the IGP has been referred to the Constitutional Council for approval, said speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.
He said he received the letter of recommendation from the secretary to the president yesterday (10).
The CC will take it up at its meeting next week, said the speaker.
Wickramaratne was given another three months as the police chief effective from last Sunday following a discussion between president Ranil Wickremesinghe and public security minister Tiran Alles at the former’s official residence at Paget Road in Colombo.
However, opposition politicians reject Wickramaratne’s service extension, saying it is unconstitutional.
