Sri Lanka has agreed to fully support and work together with other countries to suppress the production and distribution of synthetic drugs, public security minister Tiran Alles said.

He extended this assurance during an international conference on the prevention of synthetic drugs, which was held recently through Zoom under the initiative of the United States Department of State, headed by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Ministers and diplomatic officers from countries including the USA, the United Kingdom, Israel, Germany, Italy, Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Australia, South Africa and Korea participated in this conference while Minister Tiran Alles participated representing Sri Lanka.

In particular, attention was paid to the measures to be taken by the countries that currently have synthetic drug factories to prevent such production activities, and the countries that do not currently have such factories to prevent the creation of such factories.

Also, special attention was paid on how prevention activities can be accelerated through the exchange of technical methods and tools currently used by the countries for drug prevention.
