Acting defence minister Premitha Bandara Tennakoon said attacks similar to the Easter Sunday bombings could take place in the country in the future.

Tennakoon told parliament yesterday (21) during the adjournment debate on the terror attacks that intelligence sectors were working day and night to apprehend extremist groups that operate both in and outside the country.

He also said ‘sonic’ is the pseudonym for an intelligence officer, who has repeatedly been mentioned in the House.

He is the one who sneaked into the terror cell of Zahran Hashim and extracted information.

“He portrayed himself as a terrorist. That is how you need to be with those terrorists. He cannot be present with them as a police officer,” said Tennakoon.

“We need to have a parliament that is mature enough to understand it,” added the acting defence minister.
