A remembrance for all those from the north and the south who died in the war took place at Viharamaha Devi Park in Colombo on 17 May.

Its focus was on remembering the victims unitedly and safeguarding the peace that has been won in order for all to live together in one country.

It was organized by a number of organizations.

Colombo YMBA president Mahendra Jayasekara and head of the Chelvanayakam Foundation in Jaffna S. Illankovan delivered the keynote lectures.

MPs M.A. Sumanthiran and Mano Ganeshan, ex-MPs Hirunika Premachandra and Siripala Amarasinghe and Samadhi Brahmana of National Greens Front as well as Patrick McCarthy of the UN resident coordinator’s office addressed the gathering.

On the occasion, clergy from all religions, officials from the US, Swiss and Japanese embassies, people from the north and the south lit lamps to remember the war dead.
