The Auditor General’s Department is reported to be badly hampered in its functions as a result of a severe dearth of staff.
Although a cadre of 2,400 officers is needed, it only has 1,400.
A shortage of translators is delaying the release of audit reports too.
Auditor general W.P.C. Wickramaratne said 165 audit superintendents and 465 audit officers will be recruited as a remedial measure.
The department has received around 600 applications for these posts.
