The people of the north too, should enjoy religious freedom as a basic human right, said opposition leader Sajith Premadasa.
He was speaking in parliament where TNA MPs staged a protest against an incident in Vavuniya.
In that incident, eight persons were arrested for holding religious activities on the night of 08 March.
They were taken into custody for ignoring a court order by making Maha Sivaratri offerings at the site at Vedukkunari in Nedunkerni.
Speaking further, Premadasa urged the government to hold an impartial investigation into their arrest.
