Decision-making in the SLPP has become problematic due to emerging differences between two Rajapaksas, Basil and Namal.
As a result, Namal is campaigning for the holding of a general election first.
The dispute within that party was discussed when Basil met president Ranil Wickremesinghe recently.
Namal’s opinion is that a parliamentary election should be held first in order to prevent further divisions in the SLPP.
However, a majority of party MPs are against his stand and has decided to oppose a such proposal, if submitted to parliament.
