The dispute over the issuance of visas at the Katunayake airport is a slap in the face of the government over its privatisation policy, said FPC MP Dullas Alahapperuma.
The visa issuance managed properly by local immigration officials became a failure after it was handed over to a foreign company, he said.
Visitors have strongly condemned the shortcomings, he noted.
Immigration and emigration are among the fields that impact on national security and should never be independent from the jurisdiction of the state, said Alahapperuma.
