MP Gevindu Kumaratunga yesterday (14) filed a fundamental rights petition in the Supreme Court against the Central Bank.

The petition challenges the 29.27 per cent annual interest payable on EPF members of the CBSL.

He says this payment is as against the nine pc interest paid on other EPF members, as told him by finance state minister Shehan Semasinghe.

Kumaratunga requests the SC to rule this as a violation of the fundamental rights of the working people.

The petition also seeks orders to set the annual interest for all EPF members at 11 pc, and for the CBSL governor and other respondents to personally pay Rs. 10 to each EPF member.
