Mahinda Siriwardena is a deeply disappointed finance secretary due to the false accusations and pressure he is getting from various parties, it is learnt.
He has told senior officials at the Presidential Secretariat that the honour and recognition for those who revived the economy were insults and accusations made by those responsible for the economic collapse.
He said further that he should be removed from his position without levelling false accusations against him.
Several government MPs have expressed suspicion and mistrust over the finance secretary and his officials.
SLPP’s Mahindananda Aluthgamage was one of them, who recently asked the president to refrain from acting only on the basis of information given by the finance ministry.
The ministry is sending wrong signals to society, he charged, adding that the public should have been given more relief than what has already been granted to them.
Ministry officials are surprised over this attack on Siriwardena and his officials who have rendered an immense service to revive the economy from its collapse 11 months ago.
