The director board of the Consumer Affairs Authority is allegedly planning to approve the release of a stock of rice unfit for human consumption.

The consignment had been imported by the same company that is behind a massive garlic import scam, according to the national movement for the protection of consumer rights.

Head of the movement Ranjith Withanage said in a statement the CAA directors met today (19) ahead of schedule to discuss approving the rice stock.

The plan is to release it purportedly for animal feed, but mix it with other rice and sell it in the market.

A middleman with similar past experiences is plotting with a CAA official in this, said Withanage.
