Government politician Anuradha Jayaratne has been accused of having acquired a state property illegally.

The premises in question is a plot of land near Gampola Bridge on Kandy-Nuwara Eliya road, where a cultural centre has been in operation since the period of D.M. Jayaratne as the prime minister.

The state minister of justice and prison reforms should return it to the Angammana West Grama Officer by 24 February, according to a notice pasted on the property by Udapalatha divisional secretary Athma Dilrukshi Jayaratne.

The buildings constructed on the land by using state funds are being rented out to earn hundreds of thousands of rupees, but the state is yet to receive single cent in return.

When asked about the accusation, state minister Jayaratne claimed he withdrew from activities at this cultural centre in 2020.

He said he was unaware of the notice pasted on the property by the divisional secretary
