M.J. Gunasiri assumed duties today (11) as the new commissioner general of the Excise Department.
He is previously director general (state revenue) at the Presidential Secretariat.
Gunasiri is a veteran in tax administration and modernization with practical and technical knowledge on enhancing revenue of the state.
He joined the Inland Revenue Department in 1987 as a valuer and went up the ladder to become its deputy commissioner general, when he was appointed the excise commissioner general, where he served until retirement.
Then, he joined the Presidential Secretariat.
