A protest took place in Mullaitivu yesterday (08) to demand freedom for a Tamil woman who is leading a struggle for justice for missing persons.

Members of associations of relatives of missing persons in Mullaitivu, Mannar and Vavuniya staged a marched from St. Peter’s Church to the district secretariat.

They called for the release of secretary of the Vavuniya association Sivanandan Jenita, who was arrested and remanded three days earlier after she led protestors and demanded to meet  visiting president Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Another woman taken into custody along with her was released on bail by the Vavuniya magistrate.

Police said they have obtained a court injunction against Jenita that prevents her from staging protests.
