The respondents in a fundamental rights petition fled by former CID chief Ravi Seneviratne have been given time to file limited objections.

A three-judges Supreme Court bench yesterday (12) permitted a request in that regard by the deputy solicitor general who appears on behalf of the IGP and other respondents.

The next hearing will take place on 14 May, 2024.

Seneviratne, a retired senior DIG, was arrested and remanded over drunk driving and causing an accident at Bambalapitiya.

The petitioner alleges the he was not given bail although the incident caused no casualties or damaged any state property.
