The SLPP will not effect changes to its key administrative positions at its convention on the 15th, said its MP Namal Rajapaksa.

With the office-bearers tasked with administrative affairs, a separate mechanism will be in force at electorate level to build the party, he said.

The party needs to be strengthened to face a year of elections in 2024, he said, adding that certain amendments to the party constitution would be introduced as well.

Also, its executive committee will have new members, said Rajapaksa.

Meanwhile, SLPP general secretary Sagara Kariyawasam has told 'Divaina' newspaper that a presidential candidate would not be announced at the convention.

The party and its leadership will make that decision at the appropriate time, he said.
