NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake has questioned the future functions of COPE which remains suspended by the speaker.
Raising the matter in parliament today (01), Dissanayake said the committee has been suspended with a number of state institutions to be probed during the budget debate.
COPE’s functions were suspended over the conduct of the committee’s chairman during an investigation into Sri Lanka Cricket.
He has also been barred from chairing probes into SLC.
The NPP leader said there were reasonable suspicions that the move was intentional, with the aim of sabotaging functions of COPE.
He urged the speaker to summon the committee to take a decision with regard to its future functions.
