The Army has been told to end the occupation of a LTTE cemetery in Mullaitivu.

Alampil cemetery was cleared on 15 November in preparation for the Maaveer Naal remembrance in 12 days’ time.

Former northern provincial councilor Thurairasa Raviharan said the place has around 800 LTTE members buried.

The 23 Sinha Regiment of the Army has been occupying the place for more than 15 years now.

Around 25 LTTE cemeteries in the north and the east, where an estimated 20,400 are buried, have been razed to the ground by the Army, it is alleged.
