With a claim that the mastermind of the substandard immunoglobulin scam is a member of the cabinet, the Criminal Investigation Department has been issued with a challenge to arrest him if possible.

Kalinga Indatissa PC, appearing for the accused in the related court case, did so at a hearing yesterday (15) before Maligakanda magistrate Lochana Abeywickrama.

Indatissa went onto say that the police would not arrest the two key figures involved in the distribution of substandard immunoglobulin to hospitals.

He questioned as to why his client has been taken into custody after having followed the due tender procedure.

The Medicines Regulatory Authority has been given a week to report back on the medicines seized from the suspect.

A bail application request for the suspect was rejected and he was ordered remanded further until 29 November.
