The role of SLPP MP Prof. Ranjith Bandara as chair of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) has come into question.
Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday (15) told parliament that the speaker should investigate Bandara over what had transpired at the committee meeting on the previous day.
MPs Nalin Bandara and Premnath C. Dolawatte too, commented about the COPE proceeding into the affairs of Sri Lanka Cricket.
Premadasa said video frame showed the chairman gesticulating to a certain person with his finger over his mouth, apparently asking him to refrain from answering.
This means the COPE chairman is leading how evidence should take place there.
Sports minister’s request
Meanwhile, sports minister Roshan Ranasinghe asked the speaker to appoint a separate committee headed by an opposition MP to inquire into SLC.
He accused COPE members of raising irrelevant matters when top SLC officials were summoned before it.
They are due to appear before it again on 24, 27 and 28 November.
