A boy in Mullaitivu has been barred from sitting for the grade five scholarship examination after he failed to attend school for two months due to ill health
His mother lodged a complaint with the Vavuniya branch of the Human Rights Commission on 08 November against the principal of Kompavil Vigneswara Vidyalayam.
After undergoing surgery in the stomach, the boy had resumed attending school from the first week of October in time to sit for the exam on the 15th of that month.
Since he did not get the admission for the exam, his mother inquired from the school authorities, who told her the boy cannot be permitted to sit for the exam as his attendance was inadequate.
They even told her that the particular exam was not that important.
