A group of farmers staged a protest on 23 October in Mullaitivu with a demand to issue them with the original copies of licenses for their paddy land.

Protestors marched from Pandikulam Junction to Manthai East divisional secretariat and staged an agitation.

After the end of the war, these people returned to their villages and started cultivating their traditional land.

However, with the Wildlife Conservation Department claiming ownership of the land, the matter was referred to the divisional secretariat, which issued the licenses in 2014 at two acres for each of the 58 families.

Without the original license, they still face obstructions from wildlife authorities.

Protestors handed over a petition to the assistant divisional secretary, who promised that their matter would be referred to higher authorities.

Present on the occasion to support the farmers were Tamil politicians Selvam Addaikkalanathan, Vino Noharadalingam, S. Sri Skandaraja and S. Sivamohan.
