No approval will be given under any condition for land filling in the environmentally-sensitive Muthurajawela area, said minister Nalin Fernando.
At a meeting of the Gampaha district coordinating committee yesterday (27), he questioned the basis for the approval given by the Land Reclamation and Development Corporation for land-filling in Ja-Ela.
No development work will be allowed in the Muthurajawela reserve which is being conserved via a gazette notification of the Wildlife Department and the Central Environment Authority, said Fernando.
With the secretary to the president having issued a circular in this regard, the approved land-filling should be halted immediately, he added.
