Events were organized yesterday (26) in Jaffna to mark the 36th year since the death of LTTE’s Rasiah Parthipan alias Thileepan, who died during a hunger-strike.
An exhibition at his memorial at Nallur Kovil showed his life story and newspaper, magazine and other articles about him.
In the meantime, several civil society organizations held an exhibition of photographs and information on politicians, intellectuals and civilians said to have been murdered by the LTTE.
Prominent on public display there were documents relating to Tamil personalities Alfred Duraiappah, Lakshman Kadirgamar and Rajini Thiranagama.
A motorcade to remember Thileepan reached Jaffna from Pottuvil, when floral tributes were paid to his photograph.
Following 11 days of fasting to highlight the demands of the Tamil community, he died on 26 September 1987.
