Ramzy Razeek, a social media commentator, has been released from a case filed under the ICCPR.
The Colombo magistrate’s court freed him on 21 September as there was no evidence to support the charges against him.
He was arrested in April 2020 after he posted on his Facebook page that Muslims in Sri Lanka should engage in an “ideological jihad,” using the pen and keyboard as weapons, to counter hate propaganda against them.
Police cited the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) Act and the Computer Crimes Act as grounds for his arrest.
He was released on bail on 17 September, but the investigation against him continued until his release.
