A warrant has been issued against a Navy intelligence officer after he failed to turn up continuously for court hearings relating to threats to a Tamil journalist.

Mullaitivu magistrate T. Pradeepan was yesterday (21) taking up a case filed over the incident that took place four years ago.

Shanmugam Thawaseelan was covering a struggle on April 07, 2019 for justice for Tamils who went missing towards the end of the war.

A person has threatened both the protestors and the journalists and even photographed them.

When challenged he had attempted to flee, but was captured, and subsequently he identified himself as a Navy intelligence operative.

However, this Navy officer and another person filed a case against Thawaseelan, but the complainants were absent at the hearing yesterday and at the previous one on May 04 too.

The next hearing has been fixed for February 29, 2024.
