Government MPs were due to meet at 8.30 am today (19) prior to the commencement of a debate into the Easter Sunday terror attacks.

With president Ranil Wickremesinghe out of the country, premier Dinesh Gunawardena was to chair the meeting, the attendance for which was mandatory for all ruling MPs.

Later in the day, public security minister Tiran Alles is to chair a meeting at 2.30 pm to inform all MPs about the progress in the investigations into the 2019 bombings.

Called at the request of the opposition, it will also be attended by CID, TID and state intelligence officials.

Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa told the media yesterday that his single-most objective was to find the absolute truth about the attacks without using it for political ends.
