The organized criminal and drug trafficker known as ‘Harak Kata’ has reportedly tried to seize a firearm from a policeman when he was brought to the CID headquarters yesterday (10).
With his handcuffs removed, Nadun Chinthaka was being questioned, when he had asked to go to the lavatory.
After returning, he had suddenly grappled with the STF sub-inspector who was quizzing him in a bid to escape.
Other officers foiled the attempt.
Reports said a constable had aided Harak Kata in his escape bid, and had fled soon after.
The criminal has been in the CID custody since he was brought home from overseas.
