The president is paying attention to bring all water resources in the country under a single institution,

said agriculture minister Mahinda Amaraweera.

The management of reservoirs by a number of agencies is creating numerous issues, he said.

13,000 acres of farmland ruined in Walawa

The Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board said the water supply issue of Walawa farmers still remains unresolved.

Nearly 13,000 acres of farmland there have been destroyed without water, said chairman of the Board Maddumabandara Weerasekara.

He said teams would be sent there today (14) to assess the extent of crop damage.

Risks ease in Anuradhapura

Meanwhile, minister Roshan Ranasinghe said paddy land in Kalawewa and Kandalama in Anuradhapura are no longer at risk of not getting a water supply.

According to him, the Kotmale reservoir is having a 61 per cent of its capacity, while for Parakrama Samudra and Kala Wewa it is 50 pc and 20 pc respectively.

However, the hydropower generation capacity has dropped to 25 pc, he said.
