Police have taken custody of a small child tortured by his drug-addict father in Wellampitiya.
The incident came to light via a video taken by a relative circulated in social media in recent days, although it had happened six months ago.
The man is presently in remand prison over a drug-related court case.
Police said the child had been in the care of his grandmother.
Despite a complaint, Wellampitiya police had taken no action, ‘Neth News’ reported.
A team from the radio station located the boy, along with another man to whom the mother had entrusted him, at a rented house in Borella.
Finding the child to be in ill-health, the ‘Neth News’ team handed him over to the children and women’s bureau.
