Removal of military camps in the northern province could lead to the finding of more mass graves, says a Tamil woman of Mannar whose young son is a victim of enforced disappearances.

Gravesites are located within those camps, where our boys, captured and murdered, are buried, said Manuel Udayachandra during a protest on 07 July.

Settling of the Sinhalese and building Buddhist temples in Tamil areas are aimed at covering up those mass graves, said the woman, whose 24-year-old son was abducted in 2008.

Two days prior to the protest, state minister of defence Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon ruled out removing military camps “to satisfy anyone.”

Decisions for any removal will be made after proper review, he said.

The Tamil protestors called on the United Nations to grant them a satisfactory solution on account of their missing relatives.
