Former Health Minister P.N.B. Cyril, aged 89, tragically lost his life in an elevator accident at his residence in the Siribopura area of Hambantota.

The incident occurred when Cyril and his driver were using an elevator that had been temporarily installed outside his house for repair work on the third floor.

Unfortunately, the elevator collapsed, causing both Cyril and the driver to fall to the ground and sustain injuries. Emergency services were immediately summoned, and the injured individuals were swiftly transported to the hospital for medical attention.

However, despite the best efforts of the medical staff, the former health minister succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

The Hambantota Police have launched an investigation into the accident to determine the cause of the elevator’s collapse.

The untimely demise of PNB Cyril, a prominent figure in the health sector, has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving behind a void that will be difficult to fill.
