The SLPP is giving top consideration to replace its chairman Prof. G.L. Peiris with a civil society member.
Its general secretary Sagara Kariyawasam said there are several nominees for the position that will be filled within days.
Only Prof. Peiris among the party deserters held any office in the party, Kariyawsam said.
