Charitha Ratnayake has been named as the skipper of the Sri Lanka football team that will play their first game against Yemen in the World Cup qualifier in Abha, Saudi Arabia today (12).

This announcement was made by Football Sri Lanka (FSL) who also named Harsha Fernando as the captain for the second game to be played in Colombo on October 17.

These two captains are appointed on an interim basis and FSL will appoint a long term captain after these two matches against Yemen.

Asikur Rahuman has been suspended for Sri Lanka’s two matches due to receiving the second caution in the match played by Sri Lanka against the Korean Republic in the FIFA WCQ PJQR2 on June 9, 2021.

Senan de Silva who is based in Germany to Sri Lankan origin parents is sidelined due to injury.
