Gotabaya Rajapaksa had only his dual citizenship challenged before courts when he vied for the presidency, said former chairman of the Election Commission, Mahinda Deshapriya.
He called Gamini Viyangoda and Chandraguptha Thenuwara, who had petitioned courts against Rajapaksa, as brave citizens.
However, no one challenged him over is US citizenship, said Deshapriya in response to a question raised by Narada Bakmeewewa in an interview to ‘Blind Spot’ of ‘The Leader TV’.
He was asked to comment with regard to Diana Gamage’s loss of MP seat and her dual citizenship.
The appeal court rejected the petition against Rajapaksa on the basis that it could not give a ruling on a president.
Deshapriya also touched on subjects such as politics in Aragalaya, role of the Election Commission, election law reforms etc.
