The leader of the United Republican Front (URF) leader Patali Champika Ranawaka has called for the police and state intelligence to be made independent entities with immediate effect in order for them to curb crime and establish law and order.
He told parliament that law enforcement and intelligence agencies and the tri-forces have become pawns of the minister of public security and the government.
He went onto claim the existence of a political underworld with a national election nearing.
Ranawaka cited issues in defence and intelligence sector as a contributory factor to the Easter Sunday attacks.
